Winter turns to spring

Keskiviikkona 21. huhtikuuta 2010 · Jani Lahti

As winter starts to turn to spring building on an island gets more difficult. The construction is now on hold as the ice is not thick enough to walk on but strong enough to prevent from using a boat. Here are some of the last images before the work was stopped.

Timber frame installed

Timber frame, wind shield, windows, roof insulation and roofing is now installed. Work continues next week with installation of concrete floor in sauna. Roof construction at the edges of the building looks a bit…dense ;) Insulation material used here is made of wood fiber and recycled paper (Ekovilla). There is no plastic materials (steam barrier is made of paper) used in wall structure.

Construction continues

Maanantaina 1. helmikuuta 2010 · Jani Lahti

The construction of the sauna continues by assembling the frame of the walls and roof. Here is a couple of pictures showing this quite straight forward operation. Construction is kept as simple as possible. As it shows here the construction work is pretty quick. Lets wait for more photos from Mr. Jere Vesanen who is the master builder here ;)

Sauna near Tampere, Finland

Tiistaina 26. tammikuuta 2010 · Jani Lahti

Winter building in Finland. Frozen lake finally allowed the delivery of building material of this sauna building near the city of Tampere. The building is placed on an island so it is practical to schedule most of the heavy material transportation during the mid winter. The building is formed by two building blocks (sauna and fireplace room) which are placed between 2 horizontal structures, roof and terrace. Existing trees are saved and allowed to grow through the terrace.
